Nature quiz

The quiz consists of 40 small laminated cards with a number on one side and a word on the other. They are distributed in a small area of the wood with the number upwards. The nature interpreter is on a base with questions and a die.

The students are spilt into groups and the first group throws the die, the nature interpreter writes on a list what the die shows, and they run out to find the card with that number on it. The rest of the groups also throw the die and run out to find their number. When a group has found their number, they turn over the card and memorize the word on the back.
If number 5 has the word ”frog" on it, the group returns it to the nature interpreter and says “number 5 – frog”. If this is correct, the group is asked the question corresponding to ”number five-frog”. If the group gives the right answer, they will throw the die again and add it to what they had before. Let us say they throw a three. They threw a five before. So now they have to find card number eight. This is noted on the list. The group finds number eight, reads the word on the back and comes back for the next question.

If they give the correct answer, they throw again. This time, whatever they throw is added to eight – if they throw a one, they have to find number nine. Etc. If the group answers incorrectly, the throw is deducted in stead of added. It is quite legal to answer incorrectly. The groups are given the right answer to the question before they throw again. This way, they learn something and hopefully remember the answer, if they are given the same number again. The group that reaches 40 first (if they are 40 questions and 40 cards) has won. It can take a couple of hours!
