Teaching with nature

 
Purpose of the Natureschool:
The purpose of the Naturskole is to complement the Public schools (Folkeskolen) education in understanding nature with special reference to natures interaction and the interaction between nature and society. The cultural impact on nature is described and exemplified through the operation and usage of Jægesborg State forest district.
 
What does the Natureschool strive towards?
 
The activities of the Natureschool should
·          Strengthen Natural sciences in schools
·          Strengthen ties with the natural basis – the cycle of nature and a sustainable life style
·          Strengthen the students familiarity with nature and joy of being outside
·          Strengthen the students body and health, their joy of moving
·          Strengthen the students social competency
 
Use the home page of the Natureschool
On Naturskolens home page www.raadvadnaturskole.dk you can see which activities Naturskolen offers and which teaching materials exist for the excursions. You can also find our news letter which is published every other month.
On the home page the teachers can, as well as looking at the descriptions of the excursions, find ideas for those teaching courses the excursions are part of, just as there are links to resources for students on Netognatur (see below) Furthermore you can book excursions, check dates and other arrangements and fetch materials such as reports on nature class projects or good stories about naturskolens bees
 
Netognatur
Naturskolens home page is integrated with www.netognatur.dk which is a local home page with lots of easily read materials on local nature, compiled by naturvejledere, teachers and not least  by students.
 
On www.netognatur.dk you can find inspiration to experience nature in Dyrehaven, by Mølleåen and in Øresund, as well as an increasing number of local natural areas. In school Netognatur provides the possibility for an interesting course of teaching were the students can prepare themselves at the computer, work with lots of activities outside and upload their efforts in the shape of photographs, drawings, quizzes, stories and the results of their experiments to the net so others can enjoy them
 
We are Naturvejledere (nature interpreters)
As Naturvejledere we begin with first hand experiences in the local environment and we try to create an understanding of both the whole picture and its relations.
All our activities have a practical starting point and are part of, where schools are concerned, a course which is planned by the class or team teachers
 
The experimental approach to the investigation of nature and natural phenomena is paramount, but it goes hand in hand with the more sensory and creative approach.
 
We are happy to take part in the planning of longer courses and we will willingly visit your schools local natural environment for both excursions and courses.
 
Naturskolen works across all subjects and try to find an entry point from all subjects. We have activities for all age groups in Folkeskolen.
 
Offers to the schools
Most of our visits last one school day, but we will also plan longer courses were the teacher is responsible for some of the activities. This could be longer out-of-school courses or e.g. themed courses with role playing, project work or ‘older students teach younger students’ about such varied things as the length and breadth of the wood, the bronze age, evolution, Mølleåen and much more.
We have over 50 activities described on the home page, but we will willingly create new ones in co-operation with the teacher.

Normally the 0-3rd grade can visit us once a year and the older students twice a year.
 
In the 0-3rd grade the central subjects are themes as the woods right now, trips to the pond, nature games, and natural art etc
 
In 4-6th grade we work with animals and plants, views on nature, environment, evolution, practical works, food and the body, orienteering with e.g. gps and maps in any number of ways.
 
In the 7-10th grade the central issue is the students’ independent work with the investigation of nature, but we also have biotechnological courses, health related courses and activities that focus on co-operation, physical movement, views on nature and strategic thinking.
 
Our goal is to integrate IT and electronic equipment in all those aspects of our course program were it can facilitate learning processes and commitment
 
We want to co-operate!
The natureschool is in constant development, the focal point being mainly on networking with other naturvejledere on the one hand and teachers and other school officials on the other.
Dialog, knowledge sharing and developmental work nourishes the ongoing process. Every year we launch into new projects with students and teachers and we are always ready for new challenges.
 
The Natureschool  is a place of resources
We place great importance on our function as resources within science subjects and open-air school. This is why we never say no to inquiries into help with idea development, planning, study groups etc.

The Natureschool is for the users!
Out facilities and equipment are at your disposal if you as a school or as teachers have a meeting or an activity of a professional nature.
 
We have small introductory courses to enable groups of teachers to use Naturskolen and the the surrounding nature both in and after school hours.
